A bet consists of the following elements and must be sent in this order:
- Bet Type
- Modifier (Optional)
Runners are referred to by their saddle cloth numbers. If there are eight runners, these will be numbered one to eight.
Selections can be simply a number “2” or prefixed eg “no 2”, “H2”.
Runner names can be used for single leg bets but runner names are rarely used.
Bet Type Examples-
Single Leg Single Position
This normally requires a single selection, eg $2 WIN SANTA ANITA R1 3
We also support multiple selections with multiple lines, eg a WIN bet with three selections, $2 WIN SANTA ANITA R1 3 4 5 will cost $6.
Single Leg Multiple Positions
This type of bet will determine the number of positions that need to be predicted. An EXACTA requires 2, TRIFECTA requires 3, SUPERFECTA requires 4 and SuperHigh5/PENTAFECTA requires 5.
Note: Some formulas require more or less selections to place multiple bets in one. See section on formulas for more details.
For multi leg bets at least one selection must be selected for each leg, eg a PICK4 requires a selection for each of the four legs. $2 PICK4 SANTA ANITA R1 3 4 5 6 will select the 3 horse in R1, the 4 horse in R2 etc..
To have more than one selection in a leg, use “/” to separate the legs, eg $2 PICK4 SANTA ANITA R1 3 / 1 4 7 / 5 6 / 6. This bet has 3 selections in the second leg and 2 selections in the third leg. This bet has 6 lines.
Modifiers are applicable to single leg multi position bets. A modifier allows multiple combinations to be selected more quickly and placed together as one bet with multiple lines.
Straight predicts all positions in a single line bet, eg $2 TRIFECTA SANTA ANITA R1 3 / 4 / 5, predicts that runner 3 will win, runner 4 will come second and runner 5 will come third. Where the number of positions is the same as the number of selections (always the case for straight bets) then the delimiter “/” can be left out to simplify, eg $2 TRIFECTA SANTA ANITA R1 3 4 5.
A combination places every combination of the selections. In other words any of the selections can finish any order in the number of positions required by the given pool type. A box (combination) trifecta with three selections has 6 combinations and therefore 6 lines for the selections to finish in the first three places. eg $2 TRIFECTA SANTA ANITA R1 3 4 5 BOX
A box exacta with three selections is also 6 lines but only requires 2 of the 3 selections to finish first and second. eg $2 EXACTA SANTA ANITA R1 3 4 5 BOX
Key / Banker
A key (banker) horse is one you are banking on winning, eg the banker. The remaining selections are then combined on the remaining positions required for the pool type. eg $2 EXACTA SANTA ANITA R1 3 / 4 5 8
A total wheel is the rest of the field. For example an EXACTA total field, you may predict the winner but not know which will finish second. eg $2 EXACTA SANTA ANITA R1 3 ALL
A partial wheel is a custom pick of runners in positions, eg not defined by straight, box, banker or total wheel. It requires picking one of more selections for each position and at least two for one of the positions. eg $2 TRIFECTA SANTA ANITA R1 3 / 4 5 / 5 6 8
